Boeing 7E7 will be 50% Composite
Thursday November 6, 2003
Boeing has said the new 7E7 aircraft will be 50 percent composite by weight, while the use of aluminum will drop to 15 percent. Boeing expects the high use of composites will reduce maintenance time and expense, and cut fuel burn per passenger by 20 percent. Another source reports the weights as 20 percent aluminum and 30 percent titanium, steel and other materials (composites are still 50 percent).
