Nanofiber Composites for Neural and Orthopaedic Implants

Wednesday December 17, 2003
Researchers at Purdue University, US, have found that carbon nanofibre-reinforced plastic composites could be ideal for use in neural or orthopaedic implants in the human body. Not only did the composites adhere to neural or bone cells, but they also slowed the growth of cells that can coat implants with undesirable tissue. The paper was published in Nanotechnology and is available online. A less technical overview is available from Betterhumans.
