Cabinet-Maker Turns to Bio-Composites
Monday April 26, 2004
Cabinet-maker Peter Vivian has stopped using hardwoods and switched to environmentally friendly, sustainable materials. For furniture and external panels, he uses bamboo and plantation-grown coconut palm. For the interiors of cabinets, he uses bio-composites made from agricultural wastes such as wheat hulls and sunflower seed shells. The bio-composites are held together with formaldehyde-free glue, which helps significantly with indoor air pollution.
