Maine Turns Down Grant to Monolite Composites
Sunday May 9, 2004
In a followup to an earlier story, the state of Maine has turned down Monolite Composites' applications for a $400,000 (USD) development grant. The company claimed it would create hundreds of jobs in Millinocket and Bath. The state has asked for documentation to support the claims. In particular, they have asked what specific products have been made to support the claims of superior material properties, as well as the results of independent testing. Monolite has responded that the information, while patented, is also proprietary. They have shown it to select people in the state, but evidently not to composites experts.
