Columbia Debris Adds to Re-Entry Research

NASA is lending pieces of the space shuttle Columbia to The Aerospace Corp., for use in materials research. Aerospace will use the carbon/epoxy composite pieces to calibrate analytical models for predicting the re-entry behavior of composites. The models help to predict what types of structures burn up or break apart during re-entry.
