The Composites Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) is offering a one-day workshop titled Compounding and Molding of Multifunctional Polymer Nanocomposites at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI on Monday, September 13, 2004.

The workshop has two objectives: 1) Illustrating the improvement in electrical conductivity, vapor barrier effects, and mechanical properties that well dispersed nanoscale fillers produce in polymers, 2) Characterizing the structural of nanocomposites prepared by melt processing. In addition to attending lectures by experts from industry and academia, participants will attend four demonstrations: compounding and molding, structural characterization including nanoparticle orientation, barrier properties measurements, and electrical resistivity measurements. Participants will receive handouts on all phases of the workshop.

Registration fee is $495 for members of SPE and the deadline is August 13, 2004. Details and registration information appear at www.egr.msu.edu/apps/spe_nano. Note that this workshop precedes the 4th Annual SPE Automotive Composites Conference in Troy Michigan, September 14th and 15th (www.speautomotive.com/comp.htm).
