Engineering and science societies in materials and other disciplines that are related to composite materials. Most of these organization have chapters which specialize in composites.

AAAS: American Assoc for the Advancement of Science
Promotes the advancement of science and technology across all disciplines. Extensive site with membership and society info, online publications, and info about AAAS programs.

AES: The Abrasive Engineering Society
Abrasive minerals and the products made from them, including grinding wheels, waterjets, and other cutting tools. Site mainly has abstracts, book reviews, and similar materials.

AIAA: American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics
66 technical committees, many dealing with aerospace composite materials and structures.

AIChE: American Institute of Chemical Engineers
Represents chemical engineers in industry, academia, and government. Extensive site with membership page, activities, career resources, meetings, etc.

ANSI: American National Standards Institute
The group respsonsible for coordinating and administering the American National Test Standards. You can now search standards online and order the full text.

ASCE: American Society of Civil Engineers
Professional organiztion for civil engineers. Extensive site covers publications, conferences, training, careers, and society activities.

ASME: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
37 divisions and subdivisions, including several which cover composite materials, structures, and manufacturing.

ASNT: American Society for Nondestructive Testing
NDT society divided into four councils. Site has technical and educational material as well as society information.

ASTM: American Society for Testing Materials
Develops and defines worldwide test standards.

CSJ: Chemical Society of Japan
Promotes chemistry for science and industry. Holds biannual meetings, publishes books and journals, assists government and industry, and performs research.

FSCT: Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology
26 Societies organized geographically for professionals interested in coatings technology. Runs conventions and seminars, and has many publications.

IoPP: Institute of Packaging Professionals
Society set up for professionals involved in the packaging industry. The two major thrusts of the society are tamper-resistant packaging and the trash crisis. Extensive sites with society and membership information, events, society groups and news, certification, books, and more.

IUTAM: Intl Union of Theoretical & Applied Mechanics
For those engaged in scientific work in mechanics or related sciences. Hosts conferences and publishes proceedings and technical paper collections.

MFPT: Soc for Machinery Failure Prevention Tech
Interdisciplinary organization which focuses on machinery failure. Holds conferences, publishes proceedings and technical documents, and provides onsite training courses.

NACE: National Association of Corrosion Engineers
Covers all aspects of corrosion. Info about publications, events, training, and society activities. Some technical information, including NACE standards.

NSPE: National Society of Professional Engineers
Professional society for those with their PE license. Extensive site with many articles (technical and professional topics), career info, publications, and more.

NZNDTA: New Zealand NDT Association
Association for practitioners and users of nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques.

SAE: Society of Automotive Engineers
All forms of transportation, including aircraft, ships, and spacecraft, but the focus is still on the automotive industry. Composites are covered for their uses in these applications.

SCEJ: Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan
35 Technical Groups, including space environment, curing systems, microstructure, plant operation, and process engineering.

SME: Society of Manufacturing Engineers
Covers all areas of manufacturing. The Composites Manufacturing Association (CMA/SME) deals with composite materials.

Society for Experimental Mechanics
International organization founded to further the knowledge of stress and strain analysis and related technologies. Sixteen technical divisions, including composite materials.

SPE: Society of Petroleum Engineers
Serves professionals involved in the exploration and production of petroleum products. Purchase papers from the extensive online library. View events list, career center, society info.
