If you are interested in the following positions in the Advanced Polymer Composites Group, please contact Dr. Raghavan Jayaraman at the address given below. The assistantship will be 15 K per year. There exists a possibility to supplement this assistantship by volunteering as a Teaching Assistant. Academic background in polymers / composites is preferred.

(1) Two research assistantships are available for two students to work towards his / her Ph.D. from August 99. This project is funded by NSERC, National Research Council (NRC) of Canada, Bristol Aerospace Ltd., and Boeing Canada Technology. The research will be on the development of an Advanced Autoclave Process Control System (APCS) for manufacturing Polymer Composites. The two complementary components of this research project are (1) Development and Implementation of APCS architecture, and (2) Process optimization and process control using APCS and demonstration. One student will be assigned to one of these two projects and the two students will be working as a team. The students will have ample opportunity to interact with Bristol and Boeing and will spend substantial time at the Institute for Aerospace Research - NRC in Ottawa. The projects will be a good blend of analytical and experimental work. We are looking for high caliber students with high GPA who can start in August1999 or earlier. The students should have Finite Element Analysis / Numerical Analysis background and an interest to work with FEM software.
