AOC Introduces New Low-Styrene Marine Resins
COLLIERVILLE, TN, USA – New Hydropel® H100 High Performance Marine Resins are low-styrene, 100% vinyl ester material solutions from AOC, the North American resin leader. The new resins are designed to meet low-styrene MACT (maximum achievable control technology) standards proposed for boatbuilders by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The H100 series combines low styrene formulation and shop-friendly processing with the superior strength and blister resistance of vinyl ester chemistry. When used as a gel coat back-up skin coat, Hydropel resins create a superior barrier for resisting osmotic blistering. The high performance resins can also be used as the matrix resin to create a composite laminate with exceptional strength and toughness.
AOC offers three different Hydropel H100 formulations designed to meet specific fabricator needs:
- H100-M is a 100% vinyl ester resin with less than 35% styrene and high mechanical properties. Typical properties for a cast specimen include 13,600 psi (94 MPa) tensile strength, 500,000 psi (3.4 GPa) tensile modulus, 22,500 psi (155 MPa) flexural strength and 530,000 (3.7 GPa) flexural modulus.
- H100-R is a 100% vinyl ester resin with 35% styrene monomer content and the highest strength properties of the new H100 series. Typical properties for a cast specimen include 14,000 psi (97 MPa) tensile strength, 510,000 psi (3.5 GPa) tensile modulus, 23,000 psi (159 MPa) flexural strength and 530,000 (3.7 GPa) flexural modulus.
- H100-W is a vinyl ester-based resin with less than 35% styrene as well as the best workability and highest modulus properties of the new H100 series. Typical mechanical properties for a cast specimen include 12,700 psi (88 MPa) tensile strength, 530,000 psi (3.7 GPa) tensile modulus, 22,400 psi (154 MPa) flexural strength and 620,000 (4.3 GPa) flexural modulus.
