Celerant Consulting Joing Jordan Grand Prix Team

Boston (September 19, 2001) - Celerant Consulting has announced its participation in a performance improvement project for Jordan Grand Prix race team. Jordan Grand Prix race team formally announced Celerant Consulting's appointment to the project yesterday. The purpose of the project is to maximize the team's on- and off-track performance in its long-term pursuit of Formula One success.

Celerant Consulting (formerly known as Cambridge Management Consulting) has a long history of providing demonstrable performance-improvement results in projects for the chemical, energy, utilities, automotive, and manufacturing industries in the United States. "We are helping the Jordan Grand Prix team build on its fantastic foundation and vision to become a dominant Formula One team," said Ian Clarkson, Celerant Consulting's CEO. "Performance improvements resulting from our work will translate into vital championship points for the Jordan Team," he added. While in the early stages of the relationship, Celerant is helping the Jordan Team minimize fault recurrence, speed-up modifications between races, and significantly reduce fault-response times.

Largely unknown in the U.S. until recently, Formula One is one of the fastest growing sports in North America. Every two weeks, 17 times a year, 360-million people spread across every continent of the world tune in to follow 11 teams representing 10 engine manufacturers, including Jaguar, BMW, Renault, Mercedes, Honda, Asiatech, Petronas, Causeworth, European V10, and Acer. At the 11 European events alone, the circuit draws more than 2-million spectators and generates almost $500 million (USD) in spectator spending.

The Jordan Grand Prix team is currently in fourth place in the Formula One circuit, and will race at The American Grand Prix in Indianapolis on September 30, 2001. The team's goal is to become the number one Grand Prix team in the next three-to-five years.

Commenting on the announcement, Jordan's Chief Operating Officer, John Putt said, "We are confident the changes and new ways of working, implemented with Celerant Consulting's assistance, will filter through to better team and race-day performance in the new season and seasons to come. Thanks to their experience in the manufacturing and automotive industries, Celerant is the ideal partner to improve our all-around performance as a racing team." The Jordan Team is headquartered at Silverstone Race Track in the United Kingdom.

"Our project with the Jordan Team represents a fascinating microcosm of similar performance-improvement projects that we have done for many U.S. clients," said Dwight Gertz, president of Celerant Consulting in the U.S. "Our organizational effectiveness (OE) methodology has been significantly utilized on our project with the Jordan Team. As a global practice, the methodology for organizational effectiveness was developed in the U.S., and is very applicable to American business," Gertz added.

With deep roots in the process and manufacturing industries, Celerant Consulting has worked with U.S. clients including Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Visteon, and Delco Remy among many others.

Celerant Consulting employs more than 500 employees globally, and has U.S. offices in Boston and Atlanta.

About Jordan Grand Prix

Jordan, founded in 1991 by flamboyant Irishman Eddie Jordan, has brought color and a sense of humor to Formula One racing. With only a decade in the business, the team has produced impressive results: three race wins, six front rows, and 11 podiums in the last four years. In 1998, the Jordan team broke the top four strangle-hold of McLaren, Ferrari, Williams, and Benetton, which had stood since 1989; in 1999 Jordan went one better - beating two former-world champions, Williams and Benetton, to leave only the might of Ferrari and McLaren unchallenged. In 2000, Jordan was the only team to join McLaren and Ferrari on the front row of the grid, but the team suffered reliability problems, which - combined with bad luck - caused the team to slip to sixth place in the Championship. This year, the team took a major step forward in achieving its goal of winning the world championship by partnering with Honda. The partnership represents the start of a new era in Jordan Grand Prix's history that could see the team embark on its most successful period to date. Jordan encapsulates the spirit of Formula One: extreme hard work, excitement, adrenaline, and fun - a dynamic business in a dynamic sport.

Editor's Notes

Technology developments for Formula One racing steadily filter down to more general-purposes applications. Such innovations make commercial and passenger vehicles lighter, stronger, more aerodynamic, and safer. Additionally, technology improvements translate into the machine building, robotics, and converting industries as well.

Building a winning Grand Prix car involves close cooperation between a number of specialized departments including R&D, design, engineering, aerodynamics, composites, electronics, gearbox, hydraulics, fabrication, purchasing, inspection, and information technology (IT).

Jordan Grand Prix transports 20-metric tons (18 tons) of material to each race, comprised of three cars and tens of thousands of individual components.

Jordan Grand Prix directly employs 260 staff, of which 60 attend each race.

Jordan's test teams run for approximately 65 days over 22 specified weeks in the year that testing is permitted. Each car will run about 300 km (186 miles) per day for a test.

Three trucks travel to every race, each covering 35,000 km (21,749 miles) per year.

A racecar will cover approximately 700 km (435 miles) over the three days of a race weekend - that is 11,900 km (7,395 miles) over a 17-race season.
