Hexcel M20 Prepreg Used in World's Largest Sailplane

ETA is the world's largest sailplane, with a wingspan of more than 30 meters. The German built glider, which made its maiden flight on 31st July 2000, relies on Hexcel's M20/HTA UD prepreg tape for strength and stiffness in the wing spars.

Prepreg was selected for the sailplane spar caps because the designers realised that optimum performance would be achieved from the perfect alignment of fibres, which are supplied pre-impregnated with resin, in the form of UD tape. Hexcel’s M20 resin was selected because of its easy handling characteristics, which include good tack levels at room temperature.
