Owens Corning Appoints Three Technology Leaders

TOLEDO, Ohio, March 8 - To drive the advancement of three corporate initiatives adding value for customers, suppliers and other stakeholders, Owens Corning Chairman and CEO Glen H. Hiner has expanded and realigned the responsibilities of three leaders -- David L. Johns, Charles E. Dana and Frank O'Brien-Bernini.

  • David Johns will lead customer service, planning and logistics.
  • Chuck Dana will lead company e-Commerce activities.
  • Frank O'Brien-Bernini will lead the company's technology function.

Johns, senior vice president and chief information officer, assumes the task of developing an even more efficient and effective supply chain for Owens Corning, from receiving a customer's order through the delivery of product to customers.

"We are consolidating the planning and logistics functions of the supply chain organization with customer operations and Information Technology," said Hiner, "to form a completely integrated operational and developmental function. The goal is to deliver operational excellence and assured customer service across all of Owens Corning. By taking these functions to the next level of effectiveness," Hiner continued, "we will optimize our current investments in supply chain systems to leverage our competitive advantage.

"We are counting on David's leadership and vision to increase our profitability through more efficient, lower cost management of our supply chain process, while at the same time improving our service offering to our customers," Hiner continued.

Reporting to Johns will be Information Systems, Manufacturing Technologies, Customer Solutions, and Planning and Logistics Operations. He will report to the CEO.

Dana, vice president, Global Sourcing, takes on the additional leadership responsibility for the company's e-Commerce activities.

"Chuck's focus will be to take advantage of today's advancing technology, along with our common infrastructure, to extend our existing internal systems to our customers and our suppliers, making it easier for them to do business with us," says Hiner.

"Chuck will continue to optimize the investment we've made in our state- of-the-art technology infrastructure so it will become the key driver of our strategies and tactics. We are asking Chuck to ensure that our employees, customers and suppliers are thoroughly e-enabled through the Internet and our Intranet. We are confident this will increase productivity, service and profitability," concluded Hiner.

Reporting to Dana will be Global Sourcing, Shared Services, Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Management, and the e-Customer Team. Dana will report to the CEO.

O'Brien-Bernini, vice president, Technology for the Insulating Systems Business, retains his current position and takes on the additional responsibility for the function across the company as vice president, Owens Corning Science and Technology.

"Frank's experience and successful track record in composites and building materials gives him a terrific perspective for leading our Science and Technology team," said Hiner. "Part of his charter is to identify and realize synergistic opportunities and leverage across the Science and Technology organization, maximizing their effectiveness in delivering growth and productivity solutions. Frank not only has the technical background to accomplish that objective, he has the leadership skills as well."

O'Brien-Bernini will report to the president of the Insulating Systems Business and the COO.

"We are confident," stated Mr. Hiner, "that these three actions will have a highly positive impact on our company and our customers within a short period of time."
