QUANTUM Developing Natural Gas Fuel System for Hyundai

IRVINE, Calif., July 26 - QUANTUM Technologies WorldWide, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of IMPCO Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:IMCO) announced today that it was awarded a contract by Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) to develop and install a dedicated compressed natural gas fuel (injection) system for Hyundai's new Elantra super ultra-low emissions vehicle (SULEV).

``This is an important program for QUANTUM, Hyundai, and future consumers. Meeting the SULEV standard, and achieving ZEV credit eligibility, permits operation of the vehicle in the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes. This offers driver convenience and is good for the environment,'' said Syed Hussain, President and CEO of QUANTUM.

QUANTUM's state-of-the-art fuel system will include its patented fuel injectors, and TriShield(TM) compressed natural gas storage tank. QUANTUM's fuel (injection) system meets the most stringent requirements for demonstrating SULEV emissions capabilities -- a natural choice for Hyundai's SULEV prototype program -- and meets eligibility criteria for partial zero- emission vehicle (ZEV) credits.

``We are confident that the QUANTUM fuel system will meet the SULEV standards but our internal goal is to achieve further reductions to near-zero emission levels,'' according to Dr. Young Woo Kim, President of HATCI.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) adopted the SULEV standard in November 1998 as part of the Low Emission Vehicle II rules that set emission standards for passenger cars and light trucks from 2004 through 2010. The SULEV standard is a voluntary tailpipe standard for motor vehicle manufacturers that is one-eighth of the ULEV standard, formerly the tightest standard for internal combustion engines. A SULEV is more than 99 percent cleaner than uncontrolled models.

Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea. Its headquarters are located in Ann Arbor, MI and it has two branch offices located in the Los Angeles area.

QUANTUM Technologies WorldWide, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of IMPCO Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:IMCO). QUANTUM is focused on the development of fuel system enabling technologies for manufacturers of alternative propulsion and energy in emerging global markets.
