Definition:
Esters or salts of abietic acid, a principal constituent of ordinary rosin from which the products of commerce are derived, no attempt being made to separate abietic acid from the other acids which rosin is likely to contain. Esters of rosin are described as abietates and include the methyl, ethyl and benzyl derivatives, which are used chiefly as plasticizers.
