Definition:
Rigid engineering thermoplastics produced by the addition polymerization of aldehydes through the carbonyl function, yielding unbranched polyoxymethylene chains of great length. Among the strongest and stiffest of all thermoplastics, the acetal resins are characterized by good fatigue life, resilience, low moisture sensitivity, high solvent and chemical resistance, and good electrical properties. They can be glass reinforced and may be processed by conventional injection molding and extrusion techniques, and fabricated by welding methods used for other plastics. Also known as POLY-FORMALDEHYDE and POLYOXYMETHYLENES.
