Definition:
Compounds characterized by ionizable hydrogen atoms. With organic acids or carboxylic acids the ionizable hydrogen atom is directly attached through an oxygen atom, to a carbon atom, e.g., acetic acid CH3COOH. The inorganic acids, or mineral acids, include HCl, HNO3, H2SO4, H3PO4, etc.
