Definition: (1) Permanent deformation resulting from prolonged application of a stress below the elastic limit. (2) The time-dependent part of a strain resulting from stress. This dimensional change with time of a material under load, following the initial instantaneous elastic or rapid deformation can also be divided into: (a) Primary Creep-mat portion of the creep which is recoverable in time after the load is released, (b) Secondary Creep—that portion of creep which is non-recoverable. Also known as DRIFT, COMPRESSION SET, TENSION SET and STRAIN RELAXATION.
