Definition: (1) The reduction in metal volume from the solidus to room temperature. Also known as solid shrinkage. (2) Reduction of the volume of metal from the beginning to ending of solidification. Also known as SOLIDIFICATION SHRINKAGE. (3) The volume reduction of liquid metal cooling to the liquidus. Also known as LIQUID SHRINKAGE.
