Definition: A deleterious change in organic chemical structure, physical properties or appearance of a plastic caused by exposure to heat (thermal degradation), light (photodegradation), oxygen (oxidative degradation) or weathering. The ability of plastics to withstand such degradation is called stability. See also BIODEGRADATION and DETERIORATION.
