Definition:
Organic salt formed from an alcohol (base) and an organic acid by elimination of water or by the exchange of a replaceable hydrogen atom of an acid for an organic alkyi radical. When the alcohol selected is poly functional, that is, containing two or more reactive groups, and the acid is poly-functional or dibasic, an infinite number of repeating units can be formed between the alcohol and the acid. The product of such a reaction is called a polyester. Also known as an ester interchange.
