Definition: The failure or rupture of a plastic article under repeated cyclic stresses, at a point below the normal static breaking strength. Fatigue failure occurs when a specimen has completely fractured into two parts, has softened or has otherwise significantly reduced in stiffness by thermal heating or cracking. It can also be arbitrarily defined as having occurred when the specimen can no longer support the applied load within the deflection limits of the apparatus.
