Definition: Any rigid noncrystalline solid. The term is applied more commonly to noncrystalline inorganic oxides than to noncrystalline polymers. An inorganic product of fusion which has cooled to a rigid condition without crystallizing. Glass is typically hard, relatively brittle, and has a conchoidal fracture. The compositions of A-glass, C-glass, and E-glass fibers, all of which are used as composite reinforcement materials, are given below:
