Definition: Solid glass spheres of diameters ranging from 5 to 5000 microns are used as fillers and/or reinforcements in both thermosetting and thermoplastic compounds. The size used most frequently is less than 325 mesh, with an average sphere diameter of 30 micrometers. The spheres are available with various silane coupling agent coatings to improve bonding between the polymer and the glass. The addition of spheres improves physical properties, assists flow and mold filling, and reduces costs of materials, processing and end products.
