Definition:
Means of obtaining the mechanical moduli of an elastic particle composite based on the following assumptions: (a) the phases are ideally realistic and homogeneous with properties constant over their whole bulk, (b) the reinforcing particles are perfectly spherical, (c) adhesion between the phases is perfect and any other form of interaction is absent, and (d) the concentration of the particles is low which means effectively that powers of volume fractions higher than one can be neglected; that between any two particles, a region exists at which the respective perturbation effects can be neglected; and that at any point of the composite system, perturbation effects of all particles are additive.
