Definition:
The usual glass fibers, i.e., types A-, C-, E-, and S-glass contain 55-75% silica. High silica glass is much purer and is made by treating ordinary fiberglass in a hot acid bath which removes all of the impurities and leaves the silica intact with a purity of 95-99.4% SiO2. See also SILICA.
