Definition:
The average molecular weight of a high polymer expressed as the first moment of a plot of the number of molecules in each molecular weight range against the molecular weight. In effect, this is the total molecular weight of all molecules divided by the number of molecules. See also MOLECULAR WEIGHT, MOLECULAR WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION, and WEIGHT-AVERAGE MOLECULAR WEIGHT.
