Definition:
This process represents the most cost effective of all solidification processes for producing metal matrix composites. It involves the incorporation of particulates or loose fibers into an agitated melt to form a semi-solid slurry. A modification of this process is called compocasting in which chopped fibers or particulates are added to a stirred two phase (liquid plus solid) melt slurry.
