Definition: The process of forming thermoplastic sheets or billets into desired shapes by pressing them between dies in a press, when either the material has been preheated or hot dies are used. The process is usually employed for relatively thick parts of polyolefins, including glass-reinforced compounds. Warm forgings accurately reproduce mold detail and exhibit low mold shrinkage, improved thermal dimensional stability, impact strength and creep resistance. See also COLD FORMING and SOLID-PHASE FORMING.
